Fógra: Resignation of Club Chairperson Stephen McCourt

The club has this morning (Thursday 20 June) been notified of the resignation of our esteemed Chairperson Stephen McCourt.

Stephen has been the club’s chairperson since its rebirth in 2019 and has led the club through its formation to a position of strength and stability. The club now boasts close to 300 members, fields adult teams in four codes and has a strong underage structure of which we will reap the rewards in years to come.

Stephen has also been instrumental is securing access to facilities for us at The Valley, Mallusk and UU Jordanstown, opening up spaces for local Gaels to play. Stephen will remain as head coach of the Senior Ladies Team and will also assume the role of developing and strengthening Ladies Gaelic Football within the club.

The Executive Committee had been informed earlier in the year that Stephen would likely step down in June and we have now reached that point. Stephen’s resignation kick-starts a transitionary period for the club, which will see a number of committee officers move on or take on new roles from November’s AGM.

The club will hold a succession planning meeting on Sunday 30 June in The Valley Leisure Centre and all members are invited to attend. This meeting will allow anyone thinking of taking on a committee or volunteer role to learn more about the duties and commitment involved. We would strongly urge anyone who is interested in committing to the further successes of Wolfe Tones GAC to attend.

The Executive Committee would like to put on record our thanks to Stephen for his leadership and the direction in which he has set this club for the future and or the amount of time he has given, as well as the commitment and dedication which he continues to show to developing Wolfe Tones.
